Rudolf Steiner spoke of a time when we would need extra protection from external stimulation and outside influences. He suggested that this protection could be provided by Sphagnum or Peat Moss (Solum uligino- sum).
In nature, Peat Moss is found in the peat bogs and moors. Here it creates a filter for what is above, in the air, bogs and environment and what is below. Pure crystal clear vital and energised water is protected by, and found below the layer of protective moss.
A Sphagni is a Peat Moss and plant oil emulsion used externally as an oil to the body, covering it in a pro- tective cocoon. Combined with the special properties of some of the archetypal plant oils, the sphagnum emulsions help to protect while stengthening the life regenerative forces, bringing balance and well being.
Using a Sphagni allows the skin, as a sense organ, to be able to recognise boundaries and act as a filter between the outer and inner world.
There are a number of different oils and remedies using the Sphagnum emulsion. The most common are listed below.
Lavender Sphagni – Calming and helps to rebalance over activity – when everything is at risk of exploding, or being overloaded. Use before a situation becomes too intense and to help one become aware of ones own boundaries.
Rose Sphagni – Rose allows the heart to remain open while offering a protective shield to the user. For children Rose is like being surrounded by a mother’s cuddle which they can take with them as they go about their day.
Hypericum Sphagni – A beautiful bright red colour, filled with the warmth of the sun. Brings warmth and movement to overactive nervous activity. The winter and sciatica remedy!
Rosemary Sphagni – Wakes you up and gets you moving – like a coffee first thing in the more. Great for improving circulation.
Sandalwood Sphagni – Balances the nervous system, brings one out of the head and back down to earth. The teenage boys rem- edy!
